Welcome to The Rhythm Section! To compliment your morning tea or coffee (don’t forget that chocolate biscuit!), I have looked for some simple, chilled-out covers of songs you already know. Take the weight off your feet.
While in most cases (all, I hope) you’ll recognise the song, it’s quite unlikely you’ll know the artist. They’re largely unknown, they generally don’t have proper videos (for which I apologise) and more often than not, don’t have a Wikipedia page, even, so I know very little about them. So, I’ll keep my blurb to a minimum, you’ll be relieved, and simply present the track.
Lastly, it wouldn’t be as much fun if I didn’t present you with a little challenge. But I’m going to be boring with my question. Tell me who sang the original. Just write a comment, is cool. This is all for fun.
Oh, and don’t forget to check back for another excellent post from Nancy tomorrow.
To start the series, Hurrah for the Riff and Jealous Guy.
So, how’s your memory today? Who was it sang the original version?
Not one of my favourites, but that would be JL.

Funny how deeply we feel about music, DA. This isn’t one of you faves and I LOVE the original, quite possibly one of my all time favorites by who know who. Different strokes!

I grew up with the Rolling Stones and queen playing

And I grew up with Puccini, Verdi and Wagner playing but I SAW The Rolling Stones, Queen and the Beatles in person! Love them all!

LOVE this original song by one of the most famous people in the universe. So glad you went with this one first, Mr. B. Excellent choice!

This version isn’t bad, either.

I never knew you were such a big fan of Jennifer Lopez, Nancy!

😂😂 I was wondering what the heck you were getting at, Nick, but I chalked it up to too much ouzo in your black coffee LOL!! Hey, we’ve all been there and the initials are the same.
For the record, JLo is not high on my list of faves! 🖤

Here’s a cool, mellow track from Mr. Bump for his first segment of Break Time. I LOVE the original version of this song and am digging this cover, too. Check it out:

Yeah so it is a good slow burn song. Pretty much the same lyrics but to answer your question, it precedes me.

You missed the best music. buddy! Ever hear of John Lennon?

No, but search tells me he was rythm guitarist for the Beatles 😳

Oh, Sanjeet! You’re killing me, dude! Hopefully you’ve heard of the Beatles. Well, think of this site as a super cool course in school … Great Music 101!

Lennon. He’s never been at the top of my fav list, I was always a Rolling Stones type, and still am, but this song is a successful test of time, and a great cover. I hope that you’re able to keep this up after you start your new job, because I’m enjoying this a lot.

They said it couldn’t be done but I’m both a Beatles AND Stones girl. John is not my fave of the Beatles either but I do love his Jealous Guy.
So glad you’re enjoying the site, Misk!

I had all of the Beatles albums, and at the time played Rubber Soul and the White Album the most, but I still play the Stones albums nowadays. I have one of their concerts on DVD, although we don’t have a DVD player anymore. LOL!

I’ve always written the bulk of the music posts on bank holidays, so it shouldn’t affect it. The ones that will take the research are the Name That Tune ones, just because of the research involved.

From Bronx, to New Orleans, Nashville, New York and back to New Orleans…she is having quite a journey and fortunately did a nice cover of John’s song.

Always thought Bryan Ferry’s version was the best. https://youtu.be/zD_VrFJOnss
As for Lennon himself, he did his best work with The Beatles. After that he became a self-indulgent prat. Remember the Bed-In for world peace?

I remember very little about Lennon at the time, as I was too young, but yes, I remember Bryan Ferry’s version of this one too.

I thought this one was brilliant, too, but I do love music where they’re not really reliant on electricity.
