Welcome to The Rhythm Section! To compliment your morning tea or coffee (don’t forget that chocolate biscuit!), I have looked for some simple, chilled-out covers of songs you already know. Take the weight off your feet.
While in most cases (all, I hope) you’ll recognise the song, it’s quite unlikely you’ll know the artist. They’re largely unknown, they generally don’t have proper videos (for which I apologise) and more often than not, don’t have a Wikipedia page, even, so I know very little about them. So, I’ll keep my blurb to a minimum, you’ll be relieved, and simply present the track.
Lastly, it wouldn’t be as much fun if I didn’t present you with a little challenge. But I’m going to be boring with my question. Tell me who sang the original. Just write a comment, is cool. This is all for fun.
Oh, and don’t forget to check back for another excellent post from Nancy tomorrow.
This week, Kate Rusby and Friday I’m In Love. Enjoy!
So, how’s your memory today? Who was it sang the original version?

I much prefer this version to the Cure’s version. So, who is this Kate Rusby? Lovely voice.

I have no idea. Most of these artists, I do not know but am getting the tracks from Spotify.

One of my favourite songs, The Cure of course, and I prefer their version too, a little less melancholy

oh, no, I liked this one! But I could take or leave the Cure, so that’s why.

I think the original just holds great memories for me. I met hubby when it was playing

Truth be told, I much prefer The Cure’s original to this one. They were happy it was Friday and we knew it. Kate Rusby sang it like a death knell. Too slow and funereal for me. It’s Friday, girl! Enjoy it!

hahaha. She brings feeling to it, Nance!

That she did; music to nap by.
I also prefer a lower singing range for women, not such a high soprano.

This was a lovely song. I don’t think I would be in minority saying that this post should have come up on Friday. Nevertheless, thanks for a beautiful song on this spring afternoon.

Why do you say Friday? Just because of the song? It only goes out on Mondays through coincidence, but of course other songs will have nothing to do with Fridays.

I thought the song was a bit melancholy sounding, and I also thought I’d never heard it before from any artists. But when I read in the comments that Cure recorded it, I went to YouTube, watched it, and said “oh, this song.” I’m not a big fan of Cure, but my daughter liked them and I believe that’s how I know it.

She has a beautiful voice, but I prefer the original, as different as they are!

You didn’t like it? I was never a big fan of the Cure.

It’s wonderful how music makes us react so differently, isn’t it?! 🎶

I’m a bit late today – my first day in my new job – but here is a lovely cover. Despite what some commenters have said!
But who sang the original?
