Boundary: a line which marks the limits of an area; a dividing line.
Often boundaries serve a purpose, sometimes they are waiting to be transcended.
Every Friday, here at The Rhythm Section, we will explore the ocean of music using the latter as our lodestar: breaking of a boundary.

Estas Tonne
A 21st century travelling Troubadour… for over two decades with a guitar on his back, floating from place to place, weaving a worldwide safety net of friends who support and participate in an authentic journey of musical expression & self-renewal.
Best I let Estas do the talking (from his bio):
“ By travelling to countless countries and places Estas Tonne finds himself in several cultural references without identifying himself with a single nation, rather with the cultural richness of the world.
His music therefore is a fusion of classical structure, technique of Flamenco, roots of Gypsy, elements of Latin & Electronic soundscape.
Two opposites are the fields from where the music is formed.
It is the underlying structure of “I know” and the additional uniqueness of improvisation with the starting point of “I don’t know”. Thus, the soundscape unfolds according to the respective situation.”
I have always found Estas’ music to be a meditative access to my emotional landscape.
As he travels the world following his Inner Flight, the music he creates allows us to become agents of our own transformation.
I will encourage you to explore Estas Tonne at Bandcamp.
Bandcamp has a Fair Trade Music Policy under which “… artists must be compensated fairly and transparently for their work. Our share is 15% on digital items, and 10% on physical goods. Payment processor fees are separate and vary depending on the size of the transaction, but for an average size purchase, amount to an additional 4-7%. The remainder, usually 80-85%, goes directly to the artist or their label, and we pay out daily.
Since we only make money when artists make a lot more money, our interests remain aligned with those of the community we serve. It’s a straightforward approach, and one we’re happy to say works well.
Fans have paid artists and independent labels $1.12 billion using Bandcamp, and $16.3 million in the past 30 days alone.”
Estas Tonne will be on May 27th in Israel, in June in Switzerland and on August 5th at the DreamersLand Festival in Poland.
Sit back now and fly with Estas with this impromptu, unrehearsed moment during a concert!

A beautiful musical interlude Spira. Such emotive guitar playing emphasised by a gorgeous vocal. Quite astounding. It was like having the cage door thrown open and flying up into freedom’s embrace

I will not stop saying, DA Whittam, that Estas Tonne’s music is transcendent.
Your reaction supports that.
It was not easy to pick a video to present…I opted for a shorter/collaborative one. I may just post as a comment one more.

Magnificent!
What an incredible sound emanating from his guitar! It was exquisite and when the singer joined him it became a religious experience.
The second video. Well, what can I say? It stole my heart.
I can see why you chose Estas Tonne to be your featured artist today, Nick. It was brilliant and I thank you for bringing him to us. 💫
Mille grazie ❣️

Indeed, Nancy. I still remember the awe I felt and the warmth of his aura, the first time I encountered his music.
Take for instance one of his tracks, the hour long Internal Flight; it is a tapestry of the communion taking place when and wherever he performs.
I have spent countless hours meditating, creating at my workshop or simply soaking in the peace of my garden listening to that track and many more.
So, if even one more person gets acquainted with Estas and his music from this humble post, then I will be most grateful as I will feel that I have reciprocated a small amount of what I have received.
Prego, cara.

Estas Tonne is excellent! Reminds me a little of Ottmar Leibert. I’m following him on Spotify now. Thanks for the introduction!

That is fantastic, John! You are most welcome.
Ottmar Liebert!
His Nouveau Flamenco was such a good album, with Barcelona Nights as a flagship.
